altThe world is as you perceive it. The thoughts, beliefs and emotions that you entertain on a daily basis, both consciously and unconsciously, not only dictate your worldview but also generate your moods, energy levels and even your posture and physical bearing. How is this possible?

In the quantum world one of the first things to understand is that energy creates form. This rule can also be applied to the concept of WholeSelf Health. Thoughts, emotions and beliefs are energy. How your thoughts, beliefs and emotions are directed create the form of your life, including your physical form. Every thought and emotion that you have generates an almost instantaneous biochemical response in your body.

This includes the unconscious beliefs and thoughts that you have established and turned into habitual patterns that you don’t even have to consciously recognize. Your brain loves organization and it does a really fantastic job of cataloging information that gets repeated and turning it into a habit that requires not attention or focus.

Remember learning how to tie your shoes? Remember how much concentration and focus it took in the beginning as you were learning. Once you practiced enough, tying your shoes became an easy habit that you didn’t have to give attention to. Now, more than likely you can do many other things while tying your shoes because it is a pattern that is established in your brain.

Your thoughts and beliefs work similarly. Initially, you have to “practice” them. You begin to think them more than once and twice and three times, until soon it becomes a habit or pattern established in the brain. You’re able to think the thought, generate the emotion or act on the belief without ever really “thinking” about it at all. Typically, this happens at such an early age in life that you don’t even know it is happening and you don’t know that you are “practicing” your thoughts and establishing patterns that may be at the very least unhelpful and the worst, damaging.

Changing to a more supportive way of thinking is often not simply a question of ‘willpower’. Chances are it is going to take some very conscious and focused work for a little while.  Finding a good practitioner of Somatic or Body-Focused Psychology can be highly valuable. These body focused therapies are excellent for helping you learn how to listen and change the established patterns and habits in your mind.
