What is a Food Coach?
Food is an amazing thing. Far from just being something that our bodies need for daily nutrient satiation, food can be and often is also used to elicit a gamut of biochemical responses and reactions in the body.
Reaching for sugar when we are depressed, caffeine when we are low energy, quantity when we feel empty, the right (or wrong) combinations of foods can be used to alter moods, increase/decrease energy, soothe anxiety, increase clarity and focus, lose weight, gain weight, even manage pain.
A food coach is someone who has an extensive knowledge of not only nutrition but the actual quality of foods and their effects on your biochemistry. We’ve all heard the adage “you are what you eat”, well a food coach helps you analyze what you are currently eating and therefore who you currently are compared to where you want to be and who you want to be.
Your food coach then helps you create a plan that supports your desired quality of life through optimal food choices, mindful eating, even food preparation. A food coach is not necessarily a diet consultant. In fact, dieting and limitation are some of the things a food coach should be able to help you come away from.
Optimally, a food coach will provide you with the tools to listen more deeply to what your body really wants and needs and will help you realize that preparing and eating healthy food can be easy and fun.
